I haven't posted anything in a very long while decided I should.
My rabbitry has expanded into a new place. With a few friends we now have a cooperative effort for raising not only rabbits but chickens for meat and laying hens.
The rabbits have become a way of life now. I am showing as well as raising for meat and have found that most rabbit people are nice to be around. The most exciting thing that happend with my rabbits this year was when a 4-h kid took a Chinchilla Satin rabbit she purchased from me and a few months later won Grand Champion Meat Rabbit at the LaPaz county fair. That rabbit sold at auction for $1500.00 dollars. Yes that is one thousand five hundred dollars. That was a Big WOWEE. It was confirmatin that my breeding program is on the right track and that I am producing a good meat rabbit.
So for those of you who have been searching for good New zealand stock. There a few good breeders out there. But, you might want to try another breed.
Check out Rabbitgeek.com there is a list there of other breeds that were originally created as meat rabbits.
Rabbit raising for meat is very rewarding.
We have a good system now. One of my partners created an easy waste disposal method under the cages so no more trays to clean and less work intensive. The rabbits have air conditioning all summer long. They are productive so they are happy.
