Fruit Tree Replacement

Yesterday I removed a dying Apricot tree that was about twenty years old. I discovered a giant grub worm, about four inches long and 1/2 inch around on the tap root, weird. Anyway I want to replace the apricot with a new fruit tree. I am thinking of a fruit variety that will do well in the valley, maybe a peach or? I missed the fruit tree order period, any suggestions? I would like to put in the largest tree that can reasonably be planted.
Thanks Fred

My garden so far this winter.

Well I'm very pleased to say that my hungry cherry tomato is still producing tomatoes. My lavender looks wonderful. I seems to love the cold. It has all kinds of new growth. My Basil has new growth. I have been keeping it in a green house type of setting. My lemon thyme is happy. My Dill, cilantro are all doing wonderfull. I'm so looking forward to spring when the weather is so beautifull. I hope everything takes off. My sugar snap pea plants have done nothing but just grow. I hope they survive… Continue

Second Month

Ever so slowly my wee little garden is perking up. I've added a few new plants, broccoli, garlic, chard, sage, a new garden bed, and a few potted herbs, thai basil and saffron. I am so excited for my little saffron plant! They are so pretty when they bloom and it seems happy for now. My squash plants are still going strong but slow. I found a tiny green caterpillar on my biggest plant a few weeks back, I picked him off and he hasn't come back yet! I have, however, noticed quite a few little… Continue

December Update

My sense of time gets so screwy when I am waiting for seeds to come up! I've had really good and really bad results with seeds at various times, so it is hard to have faith and keep watering.

My property is 70x105 ft, front facing south. From the street there is 5 foot easement, covered in gravel, planting bed that covers two sides of the front, about 100 line feet, width varies. In the streetside bed are roses, mostly old or climbers, rosemary, Salvia "Victoria" and a couple of… Continue

closed but still no keys

We closed on our house on Nov 24, 2008. All papers signed or initialed and of course closing costs paid with a cashiers check, but of course funds were delayed due to Thanksgiving which is ok because it is my most favoritest holiday of the year. Now we are on Dec 4, 2008 and found out title company is missing quit claim deed from husband of executrix (sounds sexy no?) for the estate and he is a truck driver (like my DH) and who knows when he will be back in town, because, of course they wont… Continue
