Hey there!

I've not been on the site for a few weeks...I appreciate the personal contact.  I have contact information for some of the folks (from last year's event) that are on the ready...have you heard anything about rallying the committee members?
I think there are substantial decisions that need to be made about this years event--in my mind, the earlier the better...it might be wise to get the ball rolling soon.
As most of the larger businesses allocate funds in the first quarter, I know that the VPA was investigating sponsorships early this year, but I've not heard anything to that end.
What are your thoughts on this years event?

Cheers,
Launi

Solar Oven Cooking - Garden Pie

With a newly created solar oven design, I'm realizing I do not know how to cook in it! I spend so much time building it, but not enough time developing/gathering recipes. Thanks to a friend for her "garden pie" recipe. She calls it garden pie, because you can put just about anything in it. I describe it as a spiral quiche, but even that is not accurate. Check out the photos and give it a name!

Started the SolOve pre-heating, then went to the kitchen to put it together.

Super…

Solar Oven Adventure Log

Let me catch you up! I have been "tinkering" with solar ovens for about two years. It's been a bit of an obsession to make an oven that can reach 300 degrees or higher, and made from low/no-cost, small footprint materials. I have seen the pizza box, and just can't imagine that gets above 200 degrees.

The first through sixth versions were an education! I revisited geometry, my X-acto skills, and the melting point of duct-tape. I'm on my 7th version, I've fixed all the issues of the…

Fold your own seed packet

Found this design online and loved the simplicity. No tape, just the paper and folding. Thought I would share.

Best to print this out at full size, do not scale it or "shrink to fit" as it messes up the fold lines.

Don't Throw Anything "Away" Day

For Earth-day I decided to keep all the trash with me throughout the day to see what I use and where I can improve. I was surprised I had as much as I did, but also surprised how much was recyclable (See graphic). My hat is off to Phoenix for how much they take as recycling.

Other surprises: I paused as I reached for the paper towel to dry my hands in the restroom. The K-cups were obviously not recyclable  as I was sipping the coffee. (Do they make a single serve…
