The AZ Herb Association is an educational nonprofit, established to encourage growing, using and understanding herbs and herbal lore.
Two apple trees and two peach trees about 6 weeks after planting. Not shown: two grapevines, one grapefruit, one lime, and one fig - all purchased from the Urban Farm and picked up in January 2008.

Hi Kathyrn, it was neither, really. I had put the cardboard on as a measure to shield the trunks for the sun. I was afraid that as the sun continued to progress from its winter solstice position, I would not have time to wrap the trunks properly. The crude efforts you see here did well enough until the trees grew and acquired the branching for shade and the stamina to withstand the sun. Heck, I've used old Ace bandages to do this on other trees...and who knows what creative (and doubtless better-looking) methods you may devise?
Are you protecting the trunk with cardboard from animals or cold? Thank you!
