Need a good tree trimer recomendation

I have a very large mesquite tree and we love it for harvesting mesquite beans, and the wonderful shade it provides but it is in danger of breaking because it needs trimmed. I have never paid someone to trim my trees but this is just too big a job for me. I do not want them to butcher the tree within an inch of its life. I like it big but I want it healthy big nott in danger of breaking big. Do any of you have any recommendations?See More

Free chickens

I have a neighbor who got flooded out of her home in south phoenix. She is moving but cannot take all her chickens. I believe it is three or four hens and a rooster she is having to leave behind. The chickens are about two months old, the roosters age is unknown. She is currently without any internet access but I told her I would post here to see if anyone was interested in giving them a good home.

Leaf footed bugs

My purple Cherokee tomato plant appears to be my first casualty but the artichoke plants don't look great either. My sunflowers are dying and I have nasty orange leaf footed nymphs. Most of my other tomatoes are fine right now but I want to stop this now. Do any of you know how to get rid of these guys?Seriously between these guys also threatening my pomegranates and their cousins the squash bugs in July and August I'm ready to give up gardening. If I have to fumigate my garden why bother…See More

Garden Battle II

I feel like I've taken over the forum lately but I have been doing so much hunting and work towards getting the yard where I want it. I've now contacted two companies about getting free tree mulch. I'm on the list for free fill dirt with another company. And I'm hunting like mad for urbanite (broken concrete) and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. I can't believe how hard it is proving. I would think companies would want to save on the dump fees and give away broken concrete. The hardest…

Support and Advice Please

Well today was a very good day. I was very lucky to have Vynnie come by and give us advice for the garden. As Catherine has been telling me my problem is I don't have enough dirt in my soil... lol I did try the vermiculite and it really hasn't been in the beds long enough for me to know if it is working but today I was convinced to just put some fill dirt in and weed the beds. I really hope I'm not setting myself up for disaster with that but I feel I have no choice left.

We…

The Garden Battle...

I decided to try using the blog feature here, might be doing it wrong but this just felt bigger than a forum question. It's a long story but I'll try to make it short.

To get to the point first lets start with current day and then go back....

I have currently 16, raised beds 2 foot deep, by 3.5' x 5.5' filled with a soil mix from Western Organics that was supposed to be good for this purpose... These boxes are arranged all but one box in a 23' x 26' area in my…

Erica,

I spoke with the young man tonight who has been having concrete jack-hammered at his house.  He has broken concrete in a half high roll off thingy in front of his house.  He said it will be picked up Monday morning, and that you are welcome to take what you want.  He also has more concrete in the back, off the alley, that is also available.  That has some metal reinforcement in it.  The address is 1000 W Elna Rae in Tempe, 85281 and if I am remembering correctly which only happens some times, his name is Joe.  He was thrilled at the idea of not paying dump fees.

Hi Erica - We have our monthly meeting tonight, so I'll check in on what trees we have in our greenhouse and what our "mulberry member" has, if you are interested? Also, you are welcome to the meeting, too -- we have a speaker on blackberries - 7:30pm, at the UofA County Extension Office (4341 E Broadway Rd, Phoenix). Sorry about your current tree --  I know that Bakers is a great nursery...but, I know it's a drag to invest the time in something and then be looking at losing a season if something fails.  :(
